Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) Centre was launched by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Govt.of India with the support from WHO/UNAIDS at 25 Centers in 15 States. Our centre is established on 15th August 2004 & it is one, out of 3 Centers in the State.
Dr.Mallikarjun Swamy, Professor, Department of Medicine is the in charge of ART Centre & Dr.Basavaraj Sajjan is the Senior Medical Officer of ART centre, KIMS, Hubli.
The center is situated in the R.No.6, OPD block, KIMS Hospital, the centre covering more than 14 Districts patients in North Karnataka. All investigations done for HIV/AIDS & treatment are totally free. Pre ART minimum 4-5 times counselling will be done by the counsellors Male & Female Counsellors respectively & stressing about the adherence treatment. More than 3800 patients registered in Pre ART registration. During this 11/2 Year of ARV OPD period we have started ARV Treatment for more than 1450 patients. The CD4 Cell count test machine (Flow Cytometry) for HIV/AIDS patients is supplied from Clinton Foundation, New Delhi to ART Centre, KIMS, Hubli. This is functioning from Nov-2005 and every day 25-30 samples are screed for the CD4 test with free of cost to every patient. The salary of all staff members working in the ART Centre is paid by NACO/Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS), Bangalore.
Introduction of Infectious Disease Unit (Care & Support Center)
We are running our own 60 bedded Care & Support Centre from February 2004 for Infectious Disease including HIV/AIDS patients & free services for the patients. Dr.Mallikarjun Swamy, Professor, Department of Medicine is the Special Officer for Infectious Disease Unit, KIMS, Hubli. Dr. Basavaraj Sajjan, Chief Medical Officer, ID unit, Hubli. This ID Unit is first of its kind in Karnataka State. 4 Duty Doctors, 6 Staff Nurses, 1 Lab. Technician & 8 Group D workers are working in ID Unit, KIMS, Hubli.
